Travis Scott has been teasing his Utopia album for some time, most recently with a briefcase his security guard has been holding. In the latest issue of Pin-Up, the rapper finally provides some context for the title of the forthcoming album.
“Utopia is something that people feel is so far-fetched and out of reach, some perfect state of mind. But you create it yourself,” he explains. “There are people who achieve utopia every day. They may not be the richest people with the dopest cribs, but it’s a utopia wherever they are, and that’s the most you can have.”
He continued, “With every album I live in these worlds in my mind — I’m trying to show people experiences where utopian things can exist, and you can enjoy yourself and have a good time. They can create energy that spews out magical things — new cures, new buildings, new avenues for people to move forward. People need to see that utopia is real.”
Travis’ feature in the publication sees him going through the alphabet and for each letter, providing a word related to his design principles for space-making. “Utopia” was mentioned when he got to the letter “U.” He mentioned his love for video games, and his collection of sneakers and watches when the letters “V,” “S” and “W” were brought up. For the letter “I,” he chose the word “impact,” noting the late Virgil Abloh “had the greatest impact on me and my taste level. “
Travis continued, “He was a true inspiration.”
