Missy Elliott to be honored at the National Museum of African American Music’s Celebration of Legends

Missy Elliott will make history later this year when she becomes the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but before then, she’ll be honored at the National Museum of African American Music’s Celebration of Legends.

Billboard reports the producer will be celebrated alongside Atlantic Records, joining previous honorees Lionel RichieChaka KhanQuincy JonesSmokey Robinson and the Fisk Jubilee Singers.

The event will take place June 2 at the Nashville museum, which is “dedicated to preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans,” per the site. Missy collaborators Mya and Epic Records’ Sylvia Rhone are expected to attend.
