Hollywood’s biggest night is here and while tonight’s Academy Awards are mostly focused on actors, directors and other folks who make movies, there are several music stars who are hoping to take home some hardware.
In case you needed another reason to tune in, The Weeknd is nominated for an Academy Award for co-writing “Earned It,” the theme song for the film 50 Shades of Grey. The singer recently revealed that he was humbled upon learning of his nod. “I was ecstatic, I was so happy. What an overwhelming feeling, it’s the Academy Awards,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “It’s like your hard work is finally getting recognized.”
The singer is going up against fellow R&B singer Sam Smith, who is being recognized for “Writing’s on the Wall,” the theme song for the James Bond film SPECTRE.
Tune in to see if The Weeknd will get an Oscar statuette to put next to his Grammy trophy. The 88th Annual Academy Awards airs at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
