Wale has returned to the motherland. The rapper will appear in Revolt TV’s first original documentary special entitled, Wale: I Am From, which chronicles a trek to Africa last fall to discover his Nigerian roots. The D.C. rapper’s parents are Nigerian immigrants.
The hour-long special, which was filmed over a week’s time span, follows Wale’s interactions with his grandparents and other family for the first time. Viewers will see a glimpse into “the emotions and hurdles that accompanied Wale at every turn during his recent life-changing trek,” says Rahman Dukes, executive producer and vice president of programming news at the network, in a statement.
“I just feel like Revolt as a whole is ‘real’…it’s an aggressive approach to get the culture back,” said Wale in a statement. Fans can check out a minute-long trailer, which is posted on Revolt’s official YouTube page.
The documentary is scheduled to premiere on January 20 at 10 p.m. ET, immediately followed by a live Ustream with the rapper at 11 p.m. ET.
