TIP, formerly known as T.I., is among the names attached to the new Roots mini-series, airing on A&E in the future.
According to Indiewire, the rapper will star as Cyrus, a headstrong slave who fights for his freedom in the Union Army against Confederate Forces. The upcoming series, based on Alex Haley‘s 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family, will consist of four, two hour-long episodes.
Questlove will serve as executive music producer while other actors attached include Anika Noni Rose, Derek Luke, Forest Whitaker and Mekhi Phifer. Production is currently underway.
TIP’s recent acting credits include Ant-Man and Get Hard.
