Queen Status: VH1 Adds Missy Elliott to Hip-Hop Honors

Gary Miller/Getty ImagesMissy Elliott has been added to the list of honorees at this year’s VH1 Hip-Hop Honors award show.

The Virginia native is a a five time Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter, singer and rapper who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Elliott has become a staple in the male-dominated genre by releasing ground-breaking music videos and having all six of her studio albums certified platinum or better, making her the only female rapper to have had achieved that feat.

The news comes after the recent announcement that Queen Latifah is to be honored at the live event that will pay homage to female pioneers, trend-setters and entrepreneurs in hip-hop. Additional honorees are scheduled to be announced later this week.

The VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: All Hail the Queen will air Monday, July 11t at 9 p.m. ET from New York.
