Cliff Lipson/CBS Was there even anyone else who it could have been? Pharrell Williams has nabbed the prestigious title of Hat Person of the Year from the Headwear Association, the hat industry’s trade organization.
Pharrell earned the honor when he came in at #1 in an online poll conducted by the Association, receiving 25 percent of the votes. He narrowly edged out two other famous hat-wearers, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, who each received 24 percent of the vote.
While Pharrell has sported a variety of headgear over the years, it was no doubt his amazing Grammy hat — a Vivienne Westwood design called the Buffalo, or Mountain, hat — which allowed him to pull ahead and lock down the Hat Person of the Year title. The oversized tan chapeau got so much attention that it even inspired its own Twitter feed, which now has 19 thousand followers.
Pharrell will be honored at the trade organization’s 106th annual gala, which will be held in New York’s Central Park on April 24. Previous recipients of the Hat Person of the Year award include Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Kate Moss and Kate Middleton.
This award may not be as prestigious as Pharrell’s seven Grammys, or the Oscar he may win next month for his hit “Happy,” but we’re sure he’ll tip his hat to the Headwear Association for the honor.
