Patti LaBelle has been tapped for America’s biggest birthday party. The singer will participate for the first time in PBS’ annual special A Capitol Fourth, which will include performances live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Patti expressed her excitement about giving a “fierce” performance.
“It’s going to be fierce, that’s all I can say and I want everybody to watch, you know. I know there are other performers so please watch because I know that it’s going to be great,” she tells ABC News Radio. “Just the fact that I’m doing that is a first for me and it’s going to be as good as I can make it, let me say that.”
Hosted by Tom Bergeron, performers include two American Idol champs — Phillip Phillips and Jordin Sparks — as well as Kendall Schmidt from Big Time Rush, legendary singers Michael McDonald and Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, and the Muppets. The festivities begin at 8 p.m. ET, and include a massive fireworks display.
