Rapper and reality TV star Benzino says he’s on a long road to recovery after prosecutors say he was shot during a funeral procession in Duxbury, Massachusetts, on Saturday.
Benzino, a star of the VH1 series Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and the CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly, was allegedly shot by his nephew as the two were in a procession for the funeral of Benzino’s mother, according to WCVB-TV in Boston. Prosecutors say Gai Scott fired several shots into an SUV being driven by Benzino, whose birth name is Raymond Scott.
Benzino was taken to a police station by a passerby. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
Benzino, 48, has since posted updates on his condition on Instagram, writing, “Feel much better, GOD IS REAL.”
He also told his fans, “ALTHOUGH I WILL HAVE A LONG ROAD OF PHYSICAL THERAPY AHEAD OF ME, I WILL BE EVEN STRONGER. GOD IS GREAT AND THE DEVIL IS A LIE.”
Gai Scott, 36, was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder.
