Even though the author of the “Blue Ivy Comb Her Hair” petition announced that it was just a joke, it has managed to spark controversy. Now India.Arie and Syleena Johnson have stepped into the middle of it.
In case you missed it, a woman named Jasmine Tolliver launched a petition on Change.org calling for Beyonce and Jay Z to comb their daughter, Blue Ivy‘s hair. “It’s disturbing to watch a child suffering from the lack of hair moisture,” she wrote in the petition. “This matter has escalated to the child developing matted dreads and lint balls. Please let’s get the word out to properly care for Blue Ivy hair.” The petition has now been signed by more than 5,000 people who obviously took her seriously.
Four-time Grammy winner Arie is upset by all the support and posted a response on Twitter saying, “Why does ANYone get the idea that its ok to make fun of a child? In public no less?… I think! all these people making negative comments would feel the SAME WAY if Blue Ivy’s hair were TOO DONE. If she had a relaxer, of Hair pulled too tight at the edges. being gentle with a child’s hair is simply appropriate – this goes the same for ALL children. come ya’ll Lol. Were ARE better than this.”
Separately, Johnson, who stars in R&B Divas Atlanta, remarked in an interview that Ivy’s hair reminded her of the hair of late Wu Tang Clan rapper ODB, and The Beyhive viciously attacked her on Twitter. But Johnson tells Bossip that, like Tolliver, she was just having fun. “So I’m like, okay, they didn’t comb her hair today,” she said.” But I’m just jokes. In real life, I’m a Beyoncé fan. I love Beyoncé. And her daughter is too cute.” She added. “We love Beyoncé, we love her baby, but the girl’s hair wasn’t combed. And you know what, a lot of our babies’ hair don’t be combed. We just caught hers.”
Despite all the drama, Beyonce showed love to Johnson by including her song “All Falls Down” with Kanye West on her June birthday playlist celebrating West’s birthday on June 8.
