Drake was unable to attend Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards because he’s currently on tour with Lil Wayne. However, during his concert on Monday night in Boston, fan footage captured the rapper officially accepting his trophy for Hip-Hop Video of The Year for “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” featuring Majid Jordan.
“Because me and Lil Wayne are on tour, I never got to do my speech so I’m going to do it right now,” Drizzy says to his screaming fans, as Tunechi presented the fake Moonman. “First of all I want to thank God. I’d also like to thank my mother cause I love her very much.” Drake stated. “I’d also like to thank Lil Wayne because none of this would be possible without that man right there.”
Drake then joked at the fact that “Hold On, We’re Going Home” is actually not a hip-hop song. “I know this is a hip-hop award and I know a lot of you are out there frustrated like, ‘This is not a hip-hop song.’ And you know what…you’re right, I tricked you all. Rappers: better luck next year, thank you.”
