Chance the Rapper closed the ABC broadcast of the sports awards show with a moving tribute to Muhammad Ali. He performed a ballad whose lyrics included, “I was a rock ‘n’ roller back in my day/But now I’m just a rock.”
Earlier in the ceremony, Andra Day performed her song “Rearview” during an in memoriam segment remembering the sports figures we lost in the past year.
Newly married couple Russell Wilson and Ciara presented an award early on, and Justin Timberlake saluted retired athletes Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning and Abby Wambach with the Icon Award.
