50 Cent will avoid jail time after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors in a case in which he was charged with domestic abuse after allegedly kicking Daphne Joy, the mother of his child, and destroying her property during a fight back in June in Los Angeles.
The rapper pleaded no contest to one count of misdemeanor vandalism, in exchange prosecutors dropped the single count of misdemeanor domestic violence he faced, reports the New York Daily News. In addition, 50 was sentenced to three years unsupervised probation, mandatory counseling and a month of community service.
The rapper’s lawyer, Scott Leemon — who entered the plea on the rapper’s behalf in a Van Nuys, CA courtroom on Monday — told the paper, “We’re glad that the domestic charge was dismissed, and he took this agreement just to put the whole matter behind him and get on with his life.”
As previously reported, 50 initially pleaded not guilty to five criminal counts arising from the incident, including once count of misdemeanor domestic violence and four counts of misdemeanor vandalism. In all, those carried a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and $46,000 in fines.
