Jay Z, Kanye West, Beyonce and Rihanna each appear on individual covers of Ebony magazine‘s Black Music Month special June issue.
Each of the four covers features a separate tag line for the artist who graces it. Beyonce is referred to as “The Diva,” Jay Z as “The Mogul,” Kanye as “The Poet” and Rihanna as “The Rebel.”
Rihanna expressed her gratitude for the cover via Twitter. “Yea I’m talking Ye, Yea I’m talking Rih, Yea I’m talking B, N***a I’m talking me!” Rihanna tweeted, referring to a line in Jay says in Kanye’s 2012 song, “Clique.” She adds, “Thank You @EBONYMag#BlackMusicMonth.”
The publication also promises “a 25-page salute to Black music’s game changers, innovators and icons”in its issue. The magazine also is set to feature Tupac Shakur, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Prince, Lauryn Hill and Michael Jackson, among others.
“It was an honor to write the four cover stories for Ebony magazine’s Black Music Month special collector’s edition, and to also pen the additional four mini-features inside,” said music writer Kevin Powell in a statement. “Rarely do you see today’s unstoppable stars like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West and Jay Z packaged with legends like Tina Turner, Donna Summer or Tupac Shakur, but we did it because when it comes to Black music, it is important to note the deep connection between the musicians of yesterday and today.”
