Nicki Minaj’s “Only” Lyric Video is Causing An Uproar!

by

So Nicki Minaj’s lyric video “Only” was released last Friday it is caused people to take to their twitter accounts to comment about the video that was directed by Jeff Osborne, who used a Nazi-inspired theme throughout the short. The animated video uses cartoon versions of Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake and Chris Brown in a military style garb, what I find even more disturbing is that no one seemed to mind that Drake is dressed in traditional Jewish priest attire with Young Money Flags which resemble the red, black and white swastika symbols that was promoted during Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Nicki took to social media and stated that she “takes full responsibility” for the video, however the video director, Jeff Osborne wrote on his MySpace page (MySpace? Is anyone still on there?) saying “First, I’m not apologizing for my work, nor will I dodge the immediate question, the flags, armbands, and gas mask (and perhaps my use of symmetry?) are all representative of Nazis. As far as an explanation, I think it’s actually important to remind younger generations of atrocities that occurred in the past as a way to prevent them from happening in the future,” Osborne said. “And the most effective way of connecting with people today is through social media and pop culture. So if my work is misinterpreted because it’s not a sappy tearjerker, sorry I’m not sorry. What else is trending?”
