Sebastien De La Cruz is the talented 11 year old old mariachi singer who sang the national anthem before Game 3 of the NBA finals in San Antonio on Tuesday, and was the target of racist comments online after his performance. Hootie & the Blowfish front man Darius Rucker couldn’t make it at the last minute so the Spurs asked Sebastien to step in. The 5th grader known as “the boy with the golden voice” from last years “America’s Got Talent,” performed in a gray and black mariachi outfit and Twitter blew up with racist comments that a Hispanic singer should not be allowed to perform the national anthem. Sebastien, has been highly praised for the way he has been handling the controversy, he explained to CNN that those who have been saying negative things about him are entitled to their own opinion. ‘ It’s not hurting me. It’s just your opinion,’ the pint-sized class act said. Sebastien was invited back to game 4 to sing the national anthem on Thursday and he received a standing ovation.
