Despite objections from Whitney Houston‘s family, the Lifetime biopic devoted to the late singer has begun filming, and fans are now getting a first glimpse at Yaya DaCosta in the lead role as the iconic singer.
In a photo released by Entertainment Weekly, the former America’s Next Top Model contestant mimics the late singer’s look on the cover of her self-titled 1987 sophomore album. DaCosta rocks similar curly hair and red lips while striking the same pose.
“I just looked at the picture and did the pose,” she told the publication.
The Angela Bassett-directed film is expected to air in 2015.
