Photo by Johnny Nunez/WireImageTwo years ago, Erykah Badu surprised students at Malcolm X Shabazz High School in Newark, New Jersey with a lunchroom performance, and Monday video of that performance surfaced online.
According to Pitchfork, Badu showcased her 1997 single “On and On” as part of her partnership with The Future Project, an organization that works with schools to help “unlock the limitless potential of every young person in this country.”
In the video footage, Badu playfully interacts with the kids during her performance — she even steals a bite of someone’s food.
The video comes on the heels of Badu weighing in on the controversial debate about student uniforms; Badu believes female students should lower the hemline of their skirts.
