Just a day after performing “All the Way Home” on The Arsenio Hall Show, Tamar Braxton channels her inner dominatrix in the newly-released video for “Hot Sugar.”
The singer struts, pops and flings her hair while showing off her post-baby body in the clip, which was inspired by the isolated video feature on Instagram. Shortly after its release, the visual quickly became a trending social media topic on Thursday night, earning many mixed reviews and even drawing Beyonce comparisons. One fan commented on Tamar’s YouTube page, “I like the song but this was her opportunity to break out as a performer…she should have had a crazy dance scene for this song,” while another added, “Too much going on… however, she is still bomb.com.“
Other fans, however, praised Tamar for her efforts. Wrote one, “I think some people are too critical and are comparing her work to others. Tamar is known for being fierce, and on point. And this video is just that. The dancers are choreographed well. And she looks just as flawless as she always does.”
Prior to the video’s premiere, Tamar told Grammy.com, “I want it to be fashionable. I want it to be fun. I want it to be sexy and I wanted to remind you of hot sugar and I think that is what we did.”
“Hot Sugar” appears on Tamar’s album, Love and War, which debuted at number one on the R&B charts.
