By RALPH BRISTOUT, Austin, TX — SXSW is currently underway and last night, the lucky fans in Austin got to catch 50 Cent in action at the Fair Market —formerly 1100 Warehouse— where he ran through a bunch of his classics. Jumping from mixtape cuts like “I Just Wanna” to worldwide faves likes “I Get Money” and street-approved gems like “Heat,” Fif kept the crowded venue appeased with his diverse catalog of favorites. One of the notable moments came when 50, who recently announced his departure from Interscope Records in favor of an independent deal with Caroline (the independent label at Capitol Music Group), took time speak highly of his longtime mentor, Eminem.
“I met a lot of people in my life, but I’ma tell you one thing, I met one person who is very special to me and I point it out every time because they never give credit where credit is due. You see Eminem, that’s my n—ga, understand me,” praised 50. Of course, REVOLT was in the house and caught the touching moment that left many fans stoked.
“I mean it. I wouldn’t even be here [without him]. This sh*t would’ be over a long time ago.”
The performance was streamed live via the Hang w/ app.
50’s sentiment arrives as he prepares his upcoming album, Animal Ambition (via Caroline/Capitol Music Group). The album will be his first since 2009’s Before I Self Destruct and on Tuesday night, he unveiled the cover art as well as the two new tracks he’ll be unveiling within on March 18 (“Hold On,” “Don’t Worry ‘Bout It” with Yo Gotti). A new record will arrive every Tuesday until May 20, before the album arrives on June 3rd.
