Snoop Dogg Wants No Part of Roots Remake

ABC/Randy HolmesThe Roots remake premiered Monday and continues over four nights on the History channel and associated network, but for Snoop Dogg, the new version is not worth viewing.

“I can’t watch no more mother f****** black movies where n***** getting dogged out: 12 Years A Slave, Roots, Underground.” he said in an Instagram video rant on Monday. “I can’t watch none of that s***.”

“I ain’t watching that shit, and I advise you motherf****** as real n****** like myself; f*** them television shows,” he said.

“I don’t understand America,” he added. “They just want to keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But guess what, we taking the same abuse.”

Snoop is calling for more programming focusing on achievements by African-Americans.

“When are you going to make a mother f******series about the success that black folks is having. The only success we have is Roots, and 12 Years A Slave, and s*** like that? Let’s create our own s*** based on today on how we living and how we’re inspiring people today.”

The all-star cast for the Roots revival includes Laurence Fishburne, Forest Whitaker, Mekhi Phifer and T.I.

The original series, based on Alex Haley‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, debuted on ABC in 1977.
