Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” Requested By Venus Williams at the U.S. Open

Many would agree that Robin Thicke‘s ubiquitous hit single, “Blurred Lines” featuring Pharrell and T.I., has been the song of the summer. So it should come as no surprise that the dance track was requested to be played during the 2013 U.S. Open.

Tennis champ Venus Williams personally selected the party anthem to be played at the tournament’s opening ceremony at Arthur Ashe Stadium, in Queens, New York, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Upon registering for the event, Williams and other athletes are usually asked by organizers to list three songs they like, said Michael Fiur, who directs entertainment at the U.S. Open. On Monday, Venus’ sister Serena Williams warmed up to Lenny Kravitz‘s “American Woman” while other tennis stars have enjoyed tunes like‘s “This Is Love” and LMFAO‘s “Party Rock Anthem.”

In other Robin news, the singer’s massive hit has spent 12 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and a 15th week at number one on the R&B Songs.
