Robin Thicke Ties “Billboard” Chart Record

by declared Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” the official song of summer 2013, and now the smash hit is making chart history.

It has remained at number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart for 15 weeks, tying the record set by Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You” in 2006.  Fifteen weeks is the longest run at the top of the chart since radio airplay and sales statistics were combined in 1992. “Blurred Lines” also establishes a new record for the most weeks at number one on that chart by a white lead artist in the Billboard history.

Thicke will have to hold off two hip-hop superstars to claim solo possession of the record.  Jay-Z’s “Holy Grail” has remained at number two for six straight weeks while Eminem’s Berzerk” is heating up at number three.
