Fresh from performing with Daft Punk on the Grammy Awards last month, Pharrell Williams is now gearing up for the Academy Awards.
The singer, songwriter and producer will perform his Oscar-nominated song “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 on the telecast, airing March 2, live on ABC.
There’s less competition for Pharrell than originally thought. At first, he was up against four other songs, including U2‘s “Ordinary Love,” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, “Let It Go,” from Frozen, “Alone Yet Not Alone,” from the movie of the same name, and “The Moon Song” from the movie Her. But the Academy has since rescinded the nomination for “Alone Yet Not Alone,” thanks to some alleged backroom campaigning to secure that nomination, leaving Pharrell with only three other tunes to compete with.
Should Pharrell win the Oscar, it’ll look nice on the shelf next to his seven Grammys.
