Earlier this week, Nipsey Hussle became $10,000 richer after Jay-Z purchased 100 copies of his new Crenshaw mixtape, at $100 each.
The Los Angeles rapper, who initially released the project as a free download and then gave fans the option to buy a $100 physical copy, explained to MTV News that he’s “humbled” by the rap mogul’s unexpected gesture.
“They sent us $10,000, we sent out 100 CDs,” Nipsey recalled. “I ain’t get the chance to holler at Jay, but through his people he made it clear that he respected everything, so I was just humbled by it. It felt like it was a good risk. It ended up working out.”
In addition to Hov’s contribution, Nipsey sold 1,000 physical copies within 24 hours, which adds up to an impressive $100,000 in sales.
Fans can still download Crenshaw, which includes guest spots from Rick Ross and Slim Thug, or fork over a Benjamin for the physical copy via IAmProud2Pay.com.
