ABC/Ida Mae AstuteNicki Minaj has received the green light to executive produce and appear in a scripted comedy series for ABC Family based on the rapper’s life growing up in Queens, New York.
According to Deadline.com, the untitled series will chronicle Minaj’s childhood in the ’90s after moving to the U.S. from Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago. A pilot episode will be filmed in Minaj’s hometown this winter.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The project will mark her first television series, but Nicki’s previous acting credits include a co-starring role in the feature comedy The Other Woman and the upcoming Barbershop 3.
