Dana Edelson/NBCMusical guest Nicki Minaj stole the show on this weekend’s edition of NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
The rapper appeared as Beyoncé in a comedy sketch about a fake MTV show titled Jingle Ballerz. The show attempted to use various rappers and a Justin Bieber character to explain the holiday season.
Host James Franco impersonated Riff Raff, while other cast members portrayed Rihanna, Eminem, Rick Ross and Kanye West. Meanwhile, Minaj belted out a Beyoncé-style song about baby Jesus.
Later, Nicki e appeared on “Weekend Update” as Kim Kardashian to talk about her famous “Break the Internet” nude photos in Paper magazine. In the sketch, Minaj explained that the photos were missing their backgrounds. Minaj said as Kardashian, “The entire thing was completely misinterpreted. They forgot to put the backgrounds in, so the photos are completely out of context.” She recreated some of the photos with new backgrounds that made them appear to show a visit to the gynecologist, and to a senior math competition.
As the musical guest, Minaj performed her new songs “Bed of Lies” with Skylar Grey, plus “All Things Go” and “Only.”
Minaj’s appearance on SNL comes just ahead of her third album, The Pinkprint, which is scheduled to be released December 15.
