UniversalN.W.A. is enjoying a sales surge following the success of the biopic Straight Outta Compton.
According to Billboard, the group has earned its first top-40 hit, as “Straight Outta Compton” debuts at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song, which was released in 1988, is the seminal group’s first-ever Hot 100 entry. After selling more than 35,000 downloads, the song also debuts at #7 on Rap Streaming Songs, #9 on Hot Rap Songs, #11 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, #13 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #20 on the overall Streaming Songs chart.
On the Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, another N.W.A. number, “F**k tha Police,” bows at #20 and #25, respectively.
In total, the rap group has seen a 234 percent increase in album sales, while their song downloads soared 208 percent.
Straight Outta Compton, the move, has earned more than $111.1 million to date at U.S. and Canadian box offices.
