The rapper, who hasn’t released an album in a decade, is OK with the fact that there were viewers who were unfamiliar with her music. She tweeted on Monday, “I think it’s cool new kids think I’m a new artist that goes to show u that I’m still on [fire] & will rip down stages 20 yrs later.”
Then, channeling her inner Whitney Houston, she wrote, “I believe the children are our future teach them well let them lead the way! Now let’s go 2 iTunes& get sum missy joints & dance.”
Indeed, it does appear that Missy Elliott newbies were checking out her music on the day after the Super Bowl. The three songs she performed during the halftime show — “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” and “Lose Control” — were all on iTunes’ top 10 songs chart as of Monday evening.
