The Hill reports that eight weeks after the death of George Floyd, Minnesota’s Legislature passed a round of police accountability measures early Tuesday which includes a ban on chokeholds. In addition to the chokehold ban, this new legislation also improves data collection on deadly force encounters by creating a new investigative unit. A panel will also be established to handle police misconduct. More money will be given for crisis intervention training and officers in Minnesota will receive incentives to live in the areas they police. Should police accountability measures be passed in all 50 states? Did Minnesota pass an appropriate and thorough police accountability package?
