Marsha Ambrosius Recalls Working with Dr. Dre on “Stronger”

Image courtesy RCA RecordsMarsha Ambrosius has teamed with Dr. Dre for her new song, “Stronger,” which was a collaboration that came together seamlessly. The singer recalled how she got him to jump on board.

“Dre and myself have been working with each other since like ’07, whether that was through the Busta Rhymes project, the Game, so it was only right that we were going to do something. If we were going to do something I wanted it to be a bit bigger than what we had already done,” she told Vibe TV at the BET Awards.

She then recalled the process of gaining clearance for the song, which samples Sade‘s 1988 classic single “Stronger than Pride.”

“I hit Sade and was like, ‘Can I do this?’ And she said yes,” Marsha revealed. “Dre [then] hears it and says, ‘I love it.’ I’m like, ‘Can you get on it?’ and he said yes.”

The singer adds she’s aware of Dr. Dre being notoriously picky about who he chooses to work with. “No, he doesn’t [do that for anyone], so that makes me, me,” she says.

The song will appear on Marsha’s sophomore album, Friends & Lovers, due out July 15 which includes production from Pop & Oak, Da Internz, Eric Hudson and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, among others.
