Its been a great sales week for a handful of rappers, including Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z and Ace Hood, all of whom have reached significant milestones respectively.
First up, Kendrick Lamar can celebrate the fact that his debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has officially gone platinum, according to Billboard. This week, the disc sold an additional 9,000 copies bringing the total tally to 1,002,000 to date. The sales increase comes just a week after the Compton rapper set the social media and the hip-hop community on fire with his raw verse on Big Sean‘s “Control.”
Elsewhere, Jay Z’s hit single “Holy Grail” featuring Justin Timberlake has gone platinum after passing the coveted one million mark in sales this week — the song has sold 1,028,000 digital copies. Lifted from the rapper’s already certified platinum album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, the song currently sits at number five on Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In addition, Ace Hood’s summer smash, “Bugatti,” has also crossed the one-million-in-sales threshold, earning him a platinum plaque. He tweeted, “Bugatti platinum thank u 2 the fans! WTB .” The song appears on his latest album, Trials & Tribulations, available in stores now.
