Image Courtesy Mark Davis/NBCKendrick Lamar grew up surrounded by gang violence in Compton, California, and he’s hoping to create peace with his new sneaker line.

According to Rap-Up.com, Lamar has teamed with Reebok for the new Ventilator suede sneakers with the words “red” and “blue” on each heel, representing the colors of the Bloods and Crips gangs. He wants to send a message of unity to the gang members with the word “neutral” inscribed in the tongue tag behind his signature.

On May 11, 2015, the Grammy Award winner was honored for his efforts to give back to his hometown with the California State Senate’s “Generational Icon Award.” He received the honor from State Senator Isadore Hall III who represents Compton.

The Kendrick Lamar Reebok Ventilator will be available July 18.
