Kelly Price is currently working on her upcoming release, Sing Pray Love Vol.1, which has spawned the single, “Its My Time.” The singer tells ABC News Radio that the album’s lead offering was intended to inspire everyone to go after their dreams.
“This song really is for anybody that has ever felt like they couldn’t, whether it’s because they built their own barriers or somebody else has built barriers and they’ve decided to allow them remain in their life, to say kick them down. Kick them down and go for it,” she says of the uplifting track, which is currently #5 on the Urban AC chart.
Armed with a new positive outlook, Kelly reveals that celebrating a milestone birthday inspired her album title. “I got within months of my 40th birthday and just started thinking and over-thinking and evaluating, and this record really is a reflection of that, even the title is a reflection of that period of time: Sing Pray Love — kind of my musical version of what the movie Eat, Pray, Love was.”
Kelly says that the process of recording her sixth album was unlike that for any of her previous studio efforts. “This is the first time I’ve done an album and worked with the same producer the entire project. There was no — get a song here, get a song there. I had a ball.”
She adds that the process worked because her producer was also her friend. “I literally sat with Anthony Shep Crawford, we’ve worked together for many many years now, but he doesn’t just know me musically, he knows me,” she says.
Sing Pray Love Vol.1 will be released on June 3. In the meantime, fans can check out the accompanying visual for “Its My Time,” featuring cameos from LisaRaye, Lance Bass, Kenny Latimore and LaurieAnn Gibson on YouTube now.
