Kanye West is headed to the big screen. The rapper has teamed with American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis to write the screenplay for an upcoming film inspired by Kanye’s latest album, Yeezus.

“He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus,” the famed writer told Vice.com in a recent interview.

“It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f**k it, I said yes,” Ellis explained. “And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.”

Ellis remained mum on the details, and said he remains unsure of the timing of the proejct. “It’s in Kanye-land and that’s subject to a whole other timeframe,” he says.

Kanye has had an ongoing connection with Ellis’ work. He created a YouTube spoof of American Psycho as a promotion for Yeezus and also created a trailer “remix” for The Canyons, which Ellis wrote.
