Columbia RecordsKanye West was on hand to present his “style idol,” Pharrell Williams, with the Fashion Icon of the Year trophy at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York Monday.
“Pharrell has always been my style idol. And there would be no me, no A$AP, without Pharrell,” said ‘Ye at the podium, where he also joked about keeping his speech brief.
With his song “Come Get it Bae” playing in the background, a grateful Pharrell took stage to accept his award while his wife Helen Lasichanh watched from the audience. “No one has better style than the everyday American people. Why? Because they’re the real thing and they live it every day,” he said. “I can never be as cool as them, but I’m happy to take notes. I’m not a style icon, I’m just inspired. I am other and I am okay with that.”
Later in the evening, Kim Kardashian thanked Pharrell for an entirely different kind of inspiration: helping extinguish her dress after it caught fire. “S/o to Pharrell & Helen! After the awards the feathers of my dress caught on fire & they jumped on me to get it out,” she tweeted.
