Juicy J‘s highly anticipated major label debut album, Stay Trippy, arrives in stores today, and the rapper was able to recruit everyone from Lil Wayne to Justin Timberlake for the project. He tells ABC News Radio that getting such big names to contribute to the new disc meant a lot to him.
“I mean, I’ve been doing this for a long time, and for people to reach out and still show me love, it’s everything,” he said speaking outside the MTV Video Music Awards.
The rap legend’s 19-track project also includes contributions from Wiz Khalifa, Chris Brown, A$AP Rocky, Wale, 2 Chainz, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, Big Sean, Pimp C, Yelawolf and Project Pat. The Best Buy deluxe edition will include three bonus tracks, two of which have features from The Weeknd and Trina. He said he wasn’t just looking to pack his album with features, but they were some of the best tracks he had recorded.
“Well, the way I did it, I just did like 98 songs and just picked the best ones, and the features were there, you know,” the Memphis native said.
When asked what he hopes fans take away from his new album, Juicy said, “I want them to understand that my album is like a hustle. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years, and I want them to understand that it’s a classic and I want the young’ns to look at it and do the same thing that I did — hustle, then come back, and do it huge like you never did it before.”
Stay Trippy is available now.
