Ian Gavan/Getty Images for GucciJohn Legend continues to make it very clear that he won’t vote for Donald Trump this November.
The musician, who has criticized the presumptive Republican nominee on several occasions on social media, said at a Variety TV event Tuesday in Beverly Hills that Trump has acted “racist.”
“We are in a moment now where we have a major candidate for office that is being very racist and divisive. I feel the need to call that out all the time because I don’t want us to feel like it’s impossible for our nation to go back to another dark place,” Legend said.
“We, as a nation, can’t go back to a dark place, and it could happen if we let the wrong person into office and impose the wrong regime on this country,” he added.
When asked about being open about his opinion of Trump on Twitter, Legend said, “I can’t sit by and let this stuff happen without trying to influence people.”
Legend was at the event to discuss Underground, the WGN America series about the Underground Railroad he executive produces.
