John Legend is serving as an executive producer of the Sony Pictures movie The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo. According to Deadline.com, his Get Lifted film company is adapting the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Thomas-Alexandre Dumas who lived during the French Revolution. He was the first person of color to become a general in the French military. His life inspired his son, Alexandre Dumas, to write the classic books The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo.
Legend previously produced the documentary The House I Live In about narcotics and the criminal justice system. He is currently developing several films including Southern Rites, a documentary about segregated proms in the South.
