Jill Scott continues to expand her acting resume. The singer has been tapped to star alongside Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Dan Aykroyd in the upcoming James Brown biopic, Get On Up.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scott will portray the late singer’s wife in the the film, which will chronicle Brown’s rise to stardom and struggle with drug addiction, domestic violence arrests and financial hardships. The flick will begin production later this month and is slated to hit the big screen on October 17, 2014.
Jill’s previous acting credits include Why Did I Get Married, The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Steel Magnolias, and most recently Baggage Claim, with Paula Patton and Trey Songz, which is currently playing in theaters.
