Last month, Jazmine Sullivan gave a glimpse into her upbringing in the first episode of her web series, The Making of Jazmine Sullivan’s “Reality Show.” Now, the singer is giving fans an explanation for the cause of her three-year hiatus from music.
In a new installment titled “Spirit,” which was posted on her official YouTube page, Jazmine recalls being in a bad relationship.
“When I took my break in 2010, I was in a really bad place in life. I was in an unhealthy relationship. I basically left my city, my family and friends. I felt really alone,” she says. “When I looked in the mirror, I didn’t love who was looking back.”
After reaching her lowest, she reveals that she contemplated taking drugs. “It sounds stupid now, but for some reason I thought it was the answer,” she says before adding, “I didn’t do it and, thankfully, I came to my senses.”
She credits her spirituality for helping her turn things around and focus on her upcoming album, Reality Show, which will arrive later this year.
