Celebrities tend to enjoy the finer things in life and often invest their fortunes into art. The Hollywood Reporter has created a list of the entertainment industry’s “Top 25 Art Collectors,” and Jay-Z and Diddy are both on the list.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sean Combs first got into art after he attended the Gagosian Gallery booth at Miami Beach Art Basel 2011. Since then, he’s purchased a Tracey Emin neon for $95,000, a mirrored sculpture by Ivan Navarro for a reported $65,000 and a $15,000 work by South African Brett Murray. However, it seems he’s not necessarily emotionally attached to his collection as he recently put his Beverly Hills residence up for sale with his art included.
Meanwhile, Hov is investing in pieces from Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, according to the publication, as well as commissioned pieces by Damien Hirst and blue-chip painters Richard Prince and Ed Ruscha. Jay’s love of art should come as no surprise as he recently shut down New York’s Pace Gallery to shot the video for his single “Picasso Baby,” which included appearances from the self-proclaimed “grandmother of performance art” Marina Abramovic.
Other musicians who are on The Hollywood Reporter’s list include Elton John, Pharrell Williams and Madonna, who paid $4.7 million for a Picasso work in 2000.
