Monday night, James Brown‘s music lit up the famed Apollo Theater once again, with the star-studded premiere of the biopic Get On Up: The James Brown Story in New York.
Directed by The Help‘s Nate Taylor, the project stars 42‘s Chadwick Boseman as the Godfather of Soul. It took years for Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer to get it off the ground, but it took a Rolling Stone to get it rolling.
Mick Jagger came on as co-producer, and on the red carpet, the rock legend said proudly, “I’m so glad this movie’s finally come out and I’m really pleased with the results of it.”
Get On Up: The James Brown Story, which also stars The Help‘s Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, Dan Aykroyd, and The Office alum Craig Robinson, opens August 1.
