George Pimentel/WireImageAccording to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Apple is in talks to acquire Jay Z‘s music streaming service, Tidal.
A Tidal spokesman told the paper that the company’s executives hadn’t held talks with Tidal, but the paper reports that Tidal’s ties to artists have Apple interested.
The paper reports that Tidal also has held talks with other potential partners as well. No terms of a potential deal were reported.
An investment company controlled by Jay Z bought Tidal in March 2015 for a reported $56 million from Swedish company Aspiro. He quickly involved high-profile stars like his wife, Beyonce, Rihanna, Usher, Kanye West and Madonna. However, there have been reports the service hasn’t done as well as expected for Jay, despite the exclusive high-profile album releases.
Earlier this year there were published reports that Jay Z was preparing to sue Tidal’s prior owners over allegations that the company had inflated its subscriber numbers prior to the sale.
