Jason Merritt/Getty Images via ABCAustralian rapper Iggy Azalea is clarifying her latest online rant which criticized Beyonce for referring to Jay-Z‘s alleged side chick as “Becky”.
In a series of tweets that started on Tuesday, Azalea expressed her irritation with the word, schooling fans on why she found the term offensive and stereotypical. The Aussie rapper explained that “Becky” was created to describe a white woman’s proclivity to perform oral sex. She compared the use of the word to calling a black woman, “Sha Nay Nay” or an Asian woman, “Ming Lee.”
While many of Azelea’s fans disagreed with her assessment of Beyonce’s use of the word from the “Sorry” track on Lemonade, the “Fancy” rapper stuck to her guns, saying, “the point is: no one likes to be called out their name or generalized. the end.”
Apparently, though, Iggy felt the collective pressure of the Beyhive. She further tweeted Wednesday, “No i dont think Beyonce is racist nor do i think calling someone “BECKY” is the same as a racial slur. I actually like her and the project”.
