ABC/Randy HolmesJust days before the Oscars, Ice Cube was on hand for the first-ever All Def Movie Awards, which was held in Los Angeles Wednesday night and where his film, Straight Outta Compton, won big.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. accepted the trophy for Best Picture during the ceremony, hosted by Tony Rock. The rapper was also recognized during the show’s humorous categories, including “Best Black Survivor in a Movie,” where he won for his role in Anaconda. Other funny awards went to Amber Rose, who won for “Most Likely to Steal Your Girl Award.”
Elsewhere, Will Smith received the Lifetime Achievement Award and Norman Lear the Vanguard Award, while Sanaa Lathan earned best actress, for The Perfect Guy.
The All Def ceremony featured appearances from Tyrese Gibson, Nick Cannon, Terry Crews, Marlon Wayans, Vivica A. Fox, King Bach, Regina Hall, Robert Townsend, Bill Duke, Gary Owen, and Jerrod Carmichael.
As previously reported, the ceremony was created by All Def Digital’s Russell Simmons in response to the “stunning lack of diversity” in Hollywood.
