Fetty Wap on Hit Singles: I Didn’t Really Expect None of That

by

ABC/Randy HolmesFetty Wap is taking his success in stride. After scoring four entries in the top 10 simultaneously on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart last week, the rapper reveals that he never anticipated all of his singles becoming hits.

“I didn’t really expect like none of that.  I expected ‘Trap Queen’ to at least…do okay, but I wasn’t expecting none of this,” he explains in an interview he did with Christina Milian for Billboard. “Everything happened fast, but I feel like I’m taking it good — you know what I’m saying — don’t nothing get to my head really.”

The rapper, who is known for his catchy hooks, also revealed his musical influences. “I listen to Gucci Mane, I didn’t really, like, listen to singers,” Fetty explains. “My brother, like, listened to Joe and stuff like that. If I do get melodies, I got to say it’s from him than anybody else.”

After naming Rihanna his celebrity Trap Queen, Fetty pointed out that it was one of the first ones he came out with.

“I only made like probably — well, now I can’t really tell you how many songs I’ve made now — but ‘Trap Queen’ was my second song I ever recorded,” he adds.

Fetty’s debut album is due out on September 25 from 300 Entertainment.  He performed for a packed crowd at the Billboard Hot 100 Fest this past weekend.
