Drake Surprises Fans, Drops New Full-Length Album, Short Film

Cash Money Records

Drake pulled a fast one on fans Thursday night, releasing a full-length album instead of the free mixtape many were expecting. If Youre Reading This It’s Too Late is a 17-song album, featuring collaborations with Lil Wayne, Travi$ Scott, and PARTYNEXTDOOR.

Drake teased the album earlier Thursday with a cryptic tweet that directed fans to his website, where a nearly 15-minute film is posted featuring Drake wandering and driving around what appears to be his Toronto hometown during the day and night, at some points commenting on his life and current state of mind, including his desire to “come home.”  The film also includes what appears to be home movies, and archival footage of Toronto over the years.

The short film’s titled “Jungle,” the same as the penultimate track on the new album.  The film also ends with a taste of the track itself.  Also telling are numerous references to the number six on the album — five songs include the number, which also appears on the album cover.  “The 6” is Drake’s personal name for Toronto.

Drake’s most recent album, Nothing Was the Same, came out in 2013.  His next full-length album, Views from the 6, is expected to arrive before he headlines two huge festivals later this year, Coachella and the Governors Ball.

If Youre Reading This Its Too Late is now available on iTunes.
