Drake showed his love for Houston, Texas as he kicked off his Houston Appreciation Weekend Thursday by hosting 50 children at the Astros baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. June 10 was official declared Drake Day in Houston by Mayor Annise Parker, and Drizzy demonstrated his appreciation by unveiling an Astros tattoo on his shoulder. The Astros have adopted Drake’s “Started from the Bottom” as their theme song.
He told the Houston Chronicle, “Houston is really where I birthed my entire career. Houston is really important to me.” He added, “I have it tattooed on my skin and in my heart. That was a line I was working on, on the way here. I just want to let you to know that it means a lot for me to be here today.” Drake remembered how Lil Wayne suggested he visit Houston, and his first sold-out concert was in the city.
The Toronto-born Drizzy created the weekend to show how he has embraced the city, and he encouraged his local fans to get involved in community service projects. HAW events include a concert, pool party, and a screening of Think Like a Man Too with an appearance by the film’s star, Kevin Hart. Drake produced special HAW merchandise which he displayed on his website.
Drake will return to Houston on September 27 on his Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour.
