Drake Explains “Nothing Was the Same” Album Cover

by

ovosound.comShortly after Drake tweeted the artwork for his upcoming album, Nothing Was the Same, fans wondered why Jay-Z and Beyonce‘s daughter, Blue Ivy, was used on the cover.

To clear up any confusion, Drizzy explained to MTV News that the image isn’t Blue Ivy, but is actually a profile of him when he was younger with an afro pick in his hair.  The image was designed by artist Kadir Nelson.

“When it’s positioned on the shelf, whatever store you go to, if they do it as I’ve asked, you’ll see the fact that it’s a child version of myself staring at myself now,” the 26-year-old rapper told MTV backstage at the VMAs. “Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it’s so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy.”

Drake goes on, “What that album art is to me is that this is my most clear, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then. That’s really what that cover’s about.”

The nostalgic album cover was released with the deluxe edition, which shows a grown-up image of rapper the with the same matching sky-blue backdrop.

Nothing Was the Same will be released on September 24.
